Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts - The Breaking Point (1990)
This VHS Tape Right Here... Introduced Me To The World Of Anime And Manga
Ranma 1/2 Is A Japanese Action/Comedy Series That Was Written And Illustrated By Rumiko Takahasi. The Story Revolves Around A Teenager Named Ranma Saotome Who Has Trained In Martial Arts With His Father Genma Saotome Since Childhood. Ranma's Life Changes During A Training Journey Accident With His Father In Jusenkyo In Which They Both Accidentally Fell Into The Cursed Springs Of Drowned People And Animals. Ranma Is Cursed to Be A Girl When Splashed With Cold Water And Changes Back Into A Boy When Splashed With Hot Water! Too Add More Drama For Ranma, His Father Genma Meets And Agrees With His Best Friend Soun Tendo For A Forced Engagement Between Ranma Saotome And Akane Tendo! Ranma And Akane Do Not Like This Forced Arrangement But Nevertheless The Story Begins! Throughout The Series, Ranma Seeks Out A Way To Rid Himself Of His Curse, While Fighting To Prove He's The Best Martial Artist And Somewhat Improve His Relationship With Akane Tendo. He Meets Many Friends, Rivals, Enemies, And Many Fiancées That Constantly Hinder and Interfere With His Goals Of Being Top Martial Artist And His Relationship With Akane Tendo. Rumiko Takahasi's Manga Series Was Serialized In Weekly Shonen Sunday Magazine From August 1987 To March 1996 And Produced A Total Of 38 Manga Volumes By Shogakukan! Eventually, An Anime Was Then Created For Takahashi's Hit Manga And Was Produced By Studio Deen In 1989! The Ranma 1/2 Anime Series Ran In Japan From 1989 To 1992 And Became A Huge Hit In Japan And America As Well! The American Company Known As Viz Media, Was Able To License The Ranma 1/2 Anime Series In 1993 And It Was One Of The First Anime titles That Viz Media Licensed! Ranma 1/2 Made A Huge Impact In The Anime Genre For It's Slapstick Comedy And This Show Certainly Had An Impact In My Life!
Ranma 1/2 Is A Fun Series To Watch And Have A Good Laugh! (o^.^)-b
This Ranma 1/2 Anime VHS Tape That I Presented Above Is Very Dear And Special To Me! Why Is It So Special And Dear To CAH's Heart? Well... This Was The Very First Japanese Anime I Ever Watched When I Was A Kid Back In The 90's, G! Not Only That, But This Anime VHS Tape Is The Same Exact Tape That I Rented From A Video Store Called Hastings Back In The Day! I Was Later Blessed To Buy The Same VHS Tape Four Years After When Hastings Was Getting Rid Of Some Their VHS Tapes To Make Room For New Inventory! I Remember Paying In All Spare Change That I Found On The Street But It Felt Great That I Could Finally Buy The VHS Tape That Introduced Me To Anime! I Think I Was Like Nine Years Old At The Time When I First Rented And Watched This! I Remember My Mom And I Used To Take Walks To The Hastings Video Store On Weekends Talking About Life, Telling Jokes, And Renting Tapes For $0.49. Growing Up In A Single Parent Household We Didn't Have Much But We Had Each Other And Made The Most Of It, You Know! We Worked As A Team To Save Up For Things! The New Goal Was To Buy A New TV And A New VCR. Our Previous TV Was Made In The 80s And It Fizzled Out And Died. The Previous VCR We Had Would Eat VHS Tapes You Put Into It And Overheated All The Time! We Decided At The Time That We Would Save Up For A New TV And A New VCR! My Mom Would Work Her Job On The Weekdays And Occasionally On The Weekends And I Would Try My Best To Find Any Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, And Quarters I Could Find On The Street To Contribute Towards The Goal! I May Have Been Nine Years Old At The Time But I Knew Where To Look And Find Money On The Ground! When I Searched For Those Coins On The Ground Whether It Be On Streets, Sidewalks, School, And Stores... It Always Felt Like a Treasure Hunt To Me! To See The Happy Look On My Mom's Face When I Brought Back Those Coins... Those Were Some Great Memories I'll Always Cherish! I Remember That Fateful Day When We Saved Up The Money Goal Towards Buying That Bulky TV And That VCR! It Was A Very Happy Day Because We Could Now Watch TV And Movies With No Problems!
The TV Was Amazing
And The VCR Was Spectacular
With This Newfound Equipment, We Would Rent A Movie That We Would Watch Together And Rent One Personal Movie We Would Watch Alone For Ourselves. I Remember It Was On A Saturday! The Video/Music Store Known As Hastings Was Jammed Packed With People! My Mom Went InTo The Music Department And I Went To The Movie Department! To Be Honest With Ya... I Wanted To Rent An American Cartoon Called Heathcliff But It Was Already Rented Out! Being Nine Years Old At The Time I Wanted To Watch A Cartoon That Was Action Packed! I Then Saw It... At The Very End Of The Aisle Of The Cartoon Section.. Rumiko Takahashi 's Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts - The Breaking Point Attack VHS Tape! The Artwork On The Box Looked Different Somehow... It Didn't Look Like Your Typical Standard American Cartoon... The Image Of A Guy Looking Tough Holding A Backpack While Little Black Pigs Swarmed Around Him... It Looked Weird But... It Looked So Cool And Unique, Youknowwhatimsayin!? I Grabbed The VHS Tape And Checked The Back Of It! There Were No Images But Only Text Explaining The Two Episodes That Were On The Tape. My Curosity Got The Best Of Me And I Decided That I'm Going To Watch This Cartoon! LOL! Thinking Back On It, I Remember Showing My Mom This Tape That I Was Going To Rent At The Checkout Line. My Mom Looked At This And Said "This Man Looks A Little Pissed Off. Why Does It Say The Breaking Point? Is He Mad At Those Pigs?" Because You Know... Parents Just Watching Out For Kids, You Know. I Was Confused Myself Because I Didin't Know Either But I Said... " I Think This Man Might Be A Martial Artist Like Bruce Lee Or Jim Kelly. I Think His Martial Art Comes From A Pig And It Might Resemble Power. Like Enter The Dragon Or Somethin." I'm Telling You I Just Didn't Know! LOL! My Mom Looked At the Tape Again And Said..." Aight. That's Pretty Cool!" My Mom Gave It To The Cashier And Rung It Up! That's Why I Love You Mom! You Was Always Pretty Chill And That's Why You'll Always Be The Best! Little Did I Know That This Ranma 1/2 VHS Tape Would Change My Life Forever! I Remember Getting Home And My Mom And Said I Can Watch My Personal Movie First. I Was So Excited Because I Wonder What This Ranma 1/2 Tape Was All About! I Pulled The VHS Tape From The Sleeve And Inserted Into The New VCR... Then... I Was Blown Away! It Was About Martial Arts But It Was Funny And Had A Lot Action At the Same Time! The Fighting Was Really Detailed And It Was The First Time Hearing Japanese While Reading English Subtitles On The Screen! It Was Kind Of Like Reading A Comic Book But It Moved! The Animation Style, The Plot, The Characters, The Detailed Fighting... It Was So Cool And So Amazing! The Story Of An Martial Artist That Fell In A Chinese Cursed Spring And Changed Into A Girl When Splashed With Cold Water Was So Hilarious To Me! This Wasn't Your Cheesy Normal Cartoon From America! Oh No! This Was Cartoons That Came from Japan! I Was Hooked! It Was So Intriguing To Me That I Wanted To Watch More Of This Show And Others Like It! Each Ranma 1/2 VHS Tape Had Two Episodes Each And As Long As I Could Find More Spare Change On The Street... The More I Could Rent More $0.49 Ranma 1/2 VHS Tapes! After Watching So Much Ranma 1/2 I Definitely Fell In Love With The Ranma 1/2 Anime Series And The Whole Anime Genre As A Whole! There Was A Lot Of Video Stores Like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Hastings, Sam Goody, Suncoast, Family Video, Camelot Music, FYE, And Many Others Including Mom And Pop Stores! Each Store Had Their Own Different Anime VHS Tapes To Rent And Buy From! If I Never Rented This Ranma 1/2 Tape, I Wouldn't Have Explored The Exciting World Of Japanese Animation! Thank You Mom, Thank You God And Thank You Rumiko Takahashi! You're The Best! (o^.^)-b
Only Problem Is That VHS Tapes Are An Endangered Product And Movie Companies Stopped Putting Media On Them Back In The Mid 2000s. Even Some Of Those Movie Chains Would Throw These VHS Tapes Away To Make Way For The DVDs That Was On The Rise At The Time! The VHS Tapes Also Had Their Flaws As Well! If Not Kept In A Proper Climate Setting, The Black Film Which Is The Life Blood Of The VHS Can Start to Mold, Deteriorate, Break Off, And Many Other Factors That Could Prevent You From Watching This Tape Forever! What's Also Sad About The VHS Genre As A Whole Is That There's A Lot Of Shows And Movies That Only Had A VHS Release And Never Got a DVD Release! There's Probably Thousands Upon Thousands Of Titles Lost Through Time Because Of How Fragile The VHS Tape Is! So I, Ya Boi, The CoolAnimeHustler, Has Been Finding And Searching For Lost And Rare Anime For A Very Long Time! I Decided To Go Down The Path Of The Otaku! My Adventures Of Finding, Watching, And Collecting Anime Titles That Are Known And Not Known Gives Me Great Pleasure! You Never Know... Maybe I Can Help Somebody Out There Learn And Discover Some New Things About Anime Or An Artist That Might Interest Them! Why? Because Anime Is In My Middle Name, Youknowwhatimsayin!?
A-Yo! Lets Take A Trip And Slide Into The Anime Side Of The Game, Youknowwhatimsayin!? (Memes Included)
Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts Is Actually The 2nd Season Of The
Ranma 1/2 Series! When I Watched This For The First Time As A Kid I
Didn't Know What Episode This Was! I Just Dove Right Into It Blindly! I Learned Later That The Two Episodes On The VHS Tape Are Episode 10 And 11 Of Season 2! Episode 10 Aired On January 10th 1990 And Episode 11 Aired On January 19th 1990! To Be Honest With Ya, I Thought The
Character Surrounded By The Black Pigs On The VHS Box Was
The Main Character! Oh Boy... Was I Totally Wrong! Fortunately For The Viewer That Watches This Show For The First Time, The Show Gives A Brief Introduction Of The Two Main Characters Ranma And Akane And What The Plot Is All About!
