One Pound Gospel (OVA) (1988)
This VHS Tape Introduced Me Into More Of Rumiko Takahashi's Works! Takahashi's Comedic Storytelling Approach Towards Boxing, Faith And Love Is Truly A Underrated Classic
One Pound Gospel Is A Japanese Action/Comedy Series That Was Written And Illustrated By Rumiko Takahasi. The Story Revolves Around A Promising Professional Boxer Named Kosaku Hatanaka Who Has A Really Great KO Punch To Become A Champion Someday. The Only Problem Kosaku Has In The World Of Professional Boxing Is... Food! As A Professional Boxer, Kosaku's Low Willpower To Follow His Diet Plan And The Temptation With Ramen, Hamburgers, Pizza, And Other Tasteful Treats Has Led His Promising Boxing Career Into Journeyman Status! From Being Disqualified From Boxing Matches Because He Didn't Make The Qualifying Weight To Being Knocked Out By Boxers In Higher Weight Classes In The First Round Because Of His Poorly Managed Weight, The Losses Have Been Piling Up And It Seems That Reach Of Becoming A Boxing Champion Is Just A Dream Of The Imagination! Kosaku's Boxing Coach, Mukoda, Has Expressed His Frustration And Disappointment With Kosaku's Lack Of Willpower Of His Diet Plan And The Multiple Losses He Has Received. Coach Mudoka Stated That Kosaku's Latest Defeat, In Which He Was Knocked Out And Puked In The Ring, Has Been Blackballed From Competing In Anymore Boxing Matches Thus His Career May Finally Be Over! As Faith Would Have It... He Ends Up Bumping Into A Nun Named Sister Angela Who Sees That Kosaku Is Struggling With His Temptations And Will Power! Sister Angela, Who Is A Nun That Is Devoted To God, Decides To Help Kosaku By Giving Him Encouragement And Having Faith In The Lord To Help Him Through His Troubling Endeavors! After This Encounter, Kosaku Receives A Second Chance In The Boxing World From Situations And Micrales That Only God Himself Could Provide! The Helpful Sweet Kindness That Sister Angela Gave To Kosaku, Makes Him Fall In Love With Sister Angela. Although Sister Angela's Heart Is Only For The Lord, Kosaku's Love For Sister Angela Gives Him The Motivation To Become A Better Boxer, Fight His Unhealthy Temptation For Food, And Maybe Just Maybe... Win Sister Angela's Heart! Rumiko Takahasi's Manga Series Was Serialized Irregularly In Weekly Shonen Sunday Magazine From July 1987 To March 2007 And Produced A Total Of 4 Manga Volumes By Shogakukan! Eventually, An Anime OVA Was Then Created For Takahashi's Manga And Was Produced By Studio Gallop In 1988! The One Pound Gospel Anime OVA First Aired In Japan On December 2nd, 1988 And Received Some Decent Reviews At The Time! Since Rumiko Takahashi Officially Finished Her Widely Popular Urusei Yatsura Manga Series In 1987 And Began Working On Her New Manga Called Ranma 1/2 In The Same Year, Takahashi Was Becoming A Household Name With Manga And Anime Fans! With This Momentum In Popularity, The American Company Known As Viz Media, Was Able To License The One Pound Gospel Anime Ova In 1995! Viz Media Would Later Get The First Three Volumes Of One Pound Gospel That Came Out A Year After Each Other From (1996-1998) Because The Manga Was Serialized Irregularly. Unfortunately, Due To Irregularly Of The Manga Not Producing More Chapters For The Manga, The Fourth Manga Never Came Out And There Was No Ending Of This Lovable Manga! The Manga Run For One Pound Gospel In The US Was Canceled From Viz Media To Make Room For More Popular Titles At The Time! But You Know What... God Works In Mysterious Ways Because In 2007, Rumiko Takahashi Went Back To Her One Pound Gospel Manga And Finally Finished The Fourth Volume Giving A True Ending To All Of Her Adoring Fans! With This Love That Takahashi Showed For Her 80's Manga, Viz Media Went Back And Re-Released All Four Volumes In 2008! I Actually Remember Back In 2008 That I Was Reading An Anime Magazine In A Hastings Video/Book Store Seeing That Viz Media Was Making A 2nd Edition To This Manga And I Was Able To Pre-Order All Four Mangas In 2008! I Was So Happy To Read Them And It Was One Of My Favorite Manga Titles That I Ever Read! Later On In The Mid 2010s I Was Able To Find The Eng Sub VHS Tape Because It Was Very Hard To Find! I Was Also Able To Find The Original Japanese VHS Tape As Well! The Internet Is A Beautiful Thing, Yo! One Pound Gospel Is A Story About Boxing, Comedy, Love, And Also Faith! An Underated Classic That Needs More Love, Youknowwhtaimsayin!?
One Pound Gospel Is A Fun Underated OVA That Puts A Comedic Spin In The Sport Of Boxing, Faith, And Love! (o^.^)-b
A-Yo! Lets Take A Trip And Slide Into The Anime Side Of The Game, Youknowwhatimsayin!? (Memes Included)
The 1990's In America Were Some Of The Best Years For Watching Anime On VHS Because Everybody Thought They Were Just Kid Shows. You Could Just Rent 'Akira" Right Next To A Garfield Cartoon And The Video Store Clerk Would Just Check It Out To You No Questions Asked! They Were Cool Bros, Yo! But Later Down The Line Tho, They Started To Put Those "Not For Kids" Stickers On Them After Some Backlash From News Outlets Claiming That They Were Ultra Violent! While It's True That Some Anime Titles Were Pretty Violent And Ultra Sexualized (I'm Looking At You "Urotsukidoji", Golgo 13, And "M.D. Geist" That's Next To The Carebear VHS Tapes With No "Not For Kids" Stickers! LOL!) Most Of The Anime Titles Were Really Catered Towards The Teen Audience And Some Of Them Were Mistakenly Labeled With The "Not For Kids" Stickers (Dragonball, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Final Fantasy: Legend Of The Crystals! Had To Have An ID For Those Because I Was Just A Kid! LOL!) Nonetheless, I Walked Into A Hollywood Video One Day Because Hollywood Video Had A Really Decent Section Of Anime At That Time! I Remember I Was Looking For Some VHS Tapes To Watch And Was Thinking Of Grabbing Another Ranma 1/2 Title To Watch! That's When I Spotted This Wonderful VHS Tape Called "One Pound Gospel" In The Kids Section. I Was Still In My Early Stages Of Watching Anime And I Only Watched A Select Few Of Titles Such As "Ranma 1/2, Gunsmith Cats, Dragonball, Dirty Pair And Goldenboy (I Got Lucky With That Goldenboy VHS Because... You Know... It Didn't Have The "Not For Kids" Sticker! It Took A Lot Of Courage Renting That One Out As A Kid! Have You Seen The Cover Art! LOL!) Anyway, When I Looked At The One Pound Gospel VHS Tape I Noticed That This Was Made By Rumiko Takahashi The Same Creator Who Made Ranma 1/2 And Got Interested Real Fast! Seeing That This Story Was Going To Revolve Around Boxing, I Was Really Excited Because I Love Watching Boxing On TV! Especially Mike Tyson Because Mike Tyson Is And Forever Will Be The Greatest Knock Out Artist Of Our Lifetime! I Was Able To Rent This Title With No Problems And Walked Home To Watch It! This Is Where I Would Be Amazed Of Rumiko Takahashi's Skill With Humor And I Love Watching Movies That Make Me Laugh!

If You Want To Learn What A Journeyman Boxer Goes Through In Professional Boxing, I'll Recommend Searching the Internet! Believe Me... It's Not For The Faint Of Heart!

Kosaku Makes Sure To Bring Sister Angela Home Safely. After Witnessing Sister Angela Defend His Honor By Broken Bottle, He Decides To Change His Habits And Not Retire From Boxing.

Kosaku Is Training Like His Life Depends On It! He's Almost At The Target Weight To Qualify For Fight Night But... He Only Has Five Days! He's Cutting It Close!

Coach Mudoka Knows That If Kosaku Screws This Second Chance Up It's Officially Over! But They All Still Believe That Kosaku Can Fight His Addictions! All We Can Do Is Pray...
Found Him!! But Is It Too Late? Wow He's Fast!
I Tried To Kick... But That Food Just be Callin' Me Man, It Be Callin' Me Man... I Just Got To Go To It!
A Very Touching Scene! Fighting Through And Living Life With Bad Addictions Can Make Life Very Difficult But Having Somebody To Talk To Can Make A Difference!
